Julio César Chávez promotes new documentary on addiction and boxing legacy
Legendary Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez is promoting his new documentary series, ‘Chávez vs. Chávez’, which is set to premiere on the ViX platform. The series explores the personal struggles of the former world champion, including his battles with addiction and the mental health challenges he faced during his professional career.
Chávez, who has maintained sobriety for approximately 18 years, shared that the documentary aims to provide a message of perseverance and reflection. He discussed how his pursuit of wealth and fame did not bring fulfillment and led to difficult periods, including legal disputes and substance abuse. During recent promotional appearances, including a visit to the reality show ‘La Casa de los Famosos México’, Chávez emphasized the importance of discipline and hard work.
In addition to discussing his personal life, Chávez commented on the current state of Mexican boxing, expressing pride in Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez and suggesting that it would be a historic achievement for Canelo to fill the Estadio Azteca. He also expressed concern for his long-time friend, actress Yolanda Andrade, who was unable to attend the documentary's presentation due to health issues related to her battle with ALS.
