Julio César Domínguez retires from football and joins Cruz Azul coaching staff

Julio César 'Cata' Domínguez has officially announced his retirement from professional football after a career spanning two decades. The defender is recognized as one of the most iconic players in Cruz Azul history, having played 655 official matches for the club over 17 years. During his tenure with the team, he scored 17 goals and secured multiple titles, including a Liga MX championship, two Copas MX, a Concacaf Champions League, and a Supercopa MX.

Following his retirement announcement, Domínguez will remain with Cruz Azul in a new capacity. He is set to begin a coaching career as an assistant coach for the club's Under-21 squad, working alongside Calvillo. This transition follows his recent stint with Atlético de San Luis, where he played alongside his son.
