Julio González, head of photography at Diario de Cádiz, dies

Julio González, the head of photography for Diario de Cádiz, has passed away at his home due to natural causes at the age of 60. Born in Cádiz in 1966, González had served as the head of photography for the publication since 1999.

Throughout his career, González was a prominent figure in regional photojournalism, having previously worked for major Spanish outlets El País and El Mundo. He was noted for his creative approach to daily newspaper covers and his passion for gastronomic photography. His recent work included an exhibition at the Plaza de Abastas in Cádiz in March 2025 and an award from Cádiz CF.

Local officials, including the Mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, and Government Sub-delegate Blanca Flores, expressed their condolences, noting his professional influence and personal character within the community.
