Julio Llamazares wins National Narrative Prize

Julio Llamazares has been awarded the National Narrative Prize by the Ministry of Culture for his work ‘El viaje de mi padre’ (The Journey of My Father). The award includes a prize of 30,000 euros.

The book serves as a travel chronicle and personal reconstruction of the journey taken by the author's father, Nemesio Alonso, during the Spanish Civil War. The narrative follows the path from León to Teruel, passing through locations such as Palencia, Valladolid, and Calatayud, eventually reaching the front in Teruel and later Castellón.

The jury, chaired by María José Gálvez Salvador, praised Llamazares for his ability to combine personal evocation with historical dimension through poetic and sober prose. The work is noted for transforming a family history into a broader reflection on the identity and memory of a generation affected by the conflict.
