Julio Mirena wins gold and silver at South American Games
Paraguayan speed skater Julio Mirena has secured two medals at the XIII South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina.
Mirena won the gold medal in the men's 10,000-meter elimination race with a time of 16:15.945, narrowly defeating Argentina's Ken Kuwada by 0.127 seconds. He also earned a silver medal in the 1,000-meter sprint with a time of 1:28.226, finishing behind Colombia's Jhon Tascon.
Other notable achievements for the Paraguayan delegation include gold medals for Erika Alarcón in women's solo dance and Agua Marina Espínola in women's individual time trial cycling. Bronze medals were also awarded to Charles Hockin in men's 50-meter backstroke swimming, Alexandro Liuzzi in weightlifting, and Montserrat Viveros in women's individual épée fencing.
