Julio Velarde receives top A+ rating in Global Finance central banker ranking
Julio Velarde, president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP), has earned the highest A+ rating in the 2026 World Ranking of Central Bankers. This distinction, awarded by Global Finance magazine, marks the second time Velarde has received this top grade, having previously achieved it in 2021.
Velarde shares the A+ rating with Christian Kettel Thomsen, the governor of Denmark's central bank. The announcement was made during the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank annual meetings in Thailand.
The Global Finance ranking, which has been published annually since 1994, evaluates central bank leaders from nearly 100 countries. The assessment is based on several key criteria, including inflation management, currency stability, interest rate management, and institutional independence. Joseph Giarraputo, the publication's editorial director, noted that A-rated governors are leaders who demonstrate the discipline and independence required to maintain stability within an unpredictable global environment.
