Julius Baer report: Geopolitical diversification top priority for wealthy families

The Julius Baer 2026 Family Barometer report reveals that geopolitical diversification has become the primary investment concern for ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) families globally. As shifting alliances, sanctions, and trade reconfigurations impact asset allocation, investors are increasingly focused on where assets are held and the regulatory environments governing them.

According to the survey of advisors, geopolitical risk has surpassed inflation protection as the leading topic of discussion. Real estate remains a notable priority for diversification and stability, particularly among clients in the Middle East.

The report also highlights a significant readiness gap regarding business succession and sales. Globally, only 2.3% of families are considered fully prepared for a business transfer. In the Middle East, while succession planning remains the top priority, family governance is also a major focus. Misalignment regarding business valuations is the most common obstacle to exit readiness in the Middle East, whereas emotional attachment is the primary barrier globally.
