Danish cyclist Julius Johansen of UAE Team Emirates won the fifth stage of the 87th Volta a Portugal, a 17.4-kilometer individual time trial between Anadia and Águeda. This marks Johansen’s second victory in the competition, following his win in the prologue. He completed the course in 21 minutes and 13 seconds, averaging over 49 km/h.

Portuguese rider Tiago Antunes of Efapel finished second, 30 seconds behind Johansen, while Axel van der Tuuk of Euskaltel-Euskadi took third place. In the general classification, Frenchman Alexis Guérin of Anicolor-Campicarn successfully defended his yellow jersey. Guérin maintains a lead of 1 minute and 12 seconds over teammate Artem Nych, with Tiago Antunes in third place, 1 minute and 52 seconds off the lead.

The stage began at the Velódromo Nacional de Sangalhos and concluded with a technical climb on Avenida 25 de Abril in Águeda. Following this stage, the peloton enters a rest day before resuming the race on Wednesday with a 132.6-kilometer route from Santa Maria da Feira to Peso da Régua.
