Julius Lobato Public School receives USD 85,000 renovation

The Julius Lobato Public School in Suriname is undergoing a major renovation following an USD 85,000 investment funded by Chinese donations. The project is in its final stages and aims to transform the learning environment by addressing long-standing issues such as broken toilets and inadequate water supplies.

The funding was provided by two Chinese entities: Wencheng, which contributed USD 50,000, and the Zhejiang Shang Foundation, which added USD 35,000. The extensive work includes replacing doors, walls, ceilings, and columns, as well as renewing the water installation and repainting the entire building.

District Commissioner Wennys Vijfhoven of Paramaribo-Zuid noted that the project originated from her visit to Wencheng County in China's Zhejiang province. She described the renovation as a tangible result of cooperation between China and Suriname, emphasizing that investing in education is essential for the country's future.
