Spain endures record heatwave with temps up to 44 °C while storms bring hail and strong winds to Uruguay

Spain is experiencing an extreme heatwave. The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) has issued orange alerts for the Costa del Sol and Andalusia, with temperatures forecast to reach 44 °C in Sevilla and 42.6 °C in Alicante. Similar orange or yellow warnings cover the east, the Balearic Islands and the interior, prompting health advisories, fire‑risk alerts and recommendations to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor work during peak heat.

In addition to the heat, severe storm systems are affecting Uruguay. Meteorologists from Brazil’s MetSul warn of a high risk of medium‑to‑large hail, intense wind gusts and heavy rain across the country on Friday night and Saturday, with potential damage to vehicles, structures and people outdoors. The Uruguayan institute (Inumet) advises the public to monitor alerts and seek shelter during the strongest periods.

Southern France also remains on heat vigilance, with orange warnings for several departments as temperatures approach 39 °C and isolated thunderstorms are expected on Saturday.
