In Slovakia, gardeners are advised to start a second wave of July sowing with five quick‑maturing vegetables that can be harvested before autumn. Recommended crops include Chinese or Beijing cabbage, which forms compact heads as days shorten; bush beans that finish in 50‑60 days and enrich soil with nitrogen; Asian leaf greens such as pak choi, tatsoi or mizuna that can be harvested in 21‑30 days; black or white summer radishes that develop large, juicy roots in cooler late‑summer nights; and spinach planted in late summer for an autumn harvest.

For heat‑tolerant leafy greens, the guide also promotes New Zealand spinach (Tetragonia tetragonioides). Although not a true spinach, it thrives in high summer temperatures, tolerates short dry periods and can be harvested throughout the hot season. Seeds should be sown after the last frost in well‑drained, organic‑rich soil, kept moist, and spaced to allow spreading.
