Jumbo opens megawatt electric truck charging hub in the Netherlands

Jumbo Supermarkets inaugurated a megawatt‑scale charging hub at its distribution centre in Nieuwegein, capable of delivering up to 1 200 kW. The system can raise an electric Scania truck from 20 % to 80 % charge in about thirty minutes and is part of Jumbo’s 2030 goal for 40 % of its freight trucks and 80 % of its home‑delivery buses to be emission‑free. The infrastructure was built by Erinion, a Scania subsidiary, and includes a 1 500 A megawatt‑charging connector and three 500 A CCS chargers, powered partly by on‑site solar panels.

In a parallel development, Tibo Energy provided an integrated energy‑management solution for logistics operators in Helmond. The system combines up to 400 kW of fast chargers with solar generation and battery storage, allowing companies such as Van den Broek Logistics, GXO and LVS to charge electric trucks without exceeding existing grid connections. The EMS orchestrates power flow between chargers, the grid, solar and storage, addressing the growing net‑congestion challenges faced by the Dutch logistics sector.
