Jumbo targets annual expansion of ten new stores
The Dutch supermarket chain Jumbo has announced an ambitious expansion strategy, aiming to open at least ten new locations annually. Real estate director Marino Kamphues noted that while the company has a strong appetite for property, finding suitable supermarket locations remains a challenge. Ideal sites must meet specific criteria regarding accessibility, catchment area, logistics, and parking.
In Zwolle, two existing Jumbo locations—Sellekamp and Assendorp—are currently closed for extensive renovations. Both stores are scheduled to reopen on October 7. The Assendorp location will expand by approximately 200 square meters, featuring a new fresh food kitchen for items like sushi and wraps, a liquor store, and expanded self-scan areas. The Sellekamp location is also undergoing a complete interior overhaul to modernize its layout and expand its product assortment.
