Juna Mahakal Temple in Ujjain offers self‑service rituals for devotees

The historic Juna Mahakal Temple, located on the exit route of the world‑renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, provides an alternative for pilgrims who cannot enter the main sanctum. Devotees can perform their own water offering, Panchamrit abhishek and even touch the Shiva lingam, following Vedic chants and rituals.

Priest Akash Rawal explained that the temple symbolizes ancient worship of Lord Mahakaleshwar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, and that the rites are believed to grant health, prosperity and spiritual benefits. The temple also hosts larger ceremonies such as Rudra abhishek and small family visits by the state’s chief minister, Mohan Yadav, when he tours the Mahakaleshwar complex.
