Junaid Akbar faces cyber crime case over Islamabad protest remarks
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has registered a case against Junaid Akbar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a Member of the National Assembly, under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
The case follows remarks made by Akbar on his TikTok account regarding a planned PTI protest in Islamabad scheduled for September 27. According to the first information report, Akbar allegedly stated, “We will turn Islamabad into Somnath; just as there were 17 attacks on Somnath, there will be 17 attacks on Islamabad.”
Investigators claim the remarks constitute anti-state content intended to intimidate the government and incite fear or insecurity among the public. The NCCIA alleges the statements could promote hatred and encourage individuals to take the law into their own hands, posing a threat to public safety and property.
