Junction 8 mall evacuated after restaurant fire in Bishan

Approximately 120 people were evacuated from the Junction 8 shopping mall in Bishan on Tuesday evening, August 11, following a fire at the Yakiniku Like restaurant. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the incident at approximately 7:10 pm.

The fire originated from a table grill and exhaust ducting within the restaurant’s first-floor dining area. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze using a hose reel. While the mall's automated sprinkler systems and fire curtains were activated, thick smoke caused discomfort for bystanders, with one employee from a neighboring business being transported to Singapore General Hospital for medical assessment due to smoke exposure. No other injuries were reported.

Yakiniku Like has temporarily closed its Junction 8 outlet for inspections and safety assessments. The restaurant chain is currently cooperating with authorities and conducting safety reviews across its other Singapore locations.
