June 2026 Global EV Sales Top 2 Million as Europe Surges and US Slumps
Global electric‑vehicle registrations reached a record 2 million units in June 2026, lifting year‑to‑date sales to 9.6 million (+7% YoY). Europe set an all‑time June high with 530,000 registrations, a 31% rise, driven by strong demand in France, Denmark, Spain and Portugal and supported by Germany’s €3 billion subsidy programme. The subsidies boosted Tesla and BYD sales the most, while domestic German brands lost market share.
In contrast, the United States saw a sharp decline after the September 2025 removal of the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. U.S. EV sales fell 20% year‑to‑date and 13% in June, with the EV share of new‑vehicle sales dropping to 5.4%. Tesla captured roughly 54% of the U.S. market, while average transaction prices rose 3.5% month‑over‑month to about $56,200. Chinese manufacturers exported nearly 500,000 EVs, though domestic registrations fell 11% YoY to around 1 million units.
The broader automotive supply chain reflected these trends, with inventory levels rising and lower‑priced models such as Hyundai and Chevrolet experiencing the steepest sales drops.
