Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S
Square Enix announced that the second installment of its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Xbox Play Anywhere. The launch, scheduled for 3 June 2026, expands the game’s presence from the original PlayStation 5 release to all modern consoles.
The new ports include the optional “Streamlined Progression” (or “Progression Simplified”) system that grants unlimited HP, MP and ATB, as well as 9,999‑point damage and easier weapon‑skill acquisition. A free demo covering the first two chapters is provided on Switch 2 and Xbox platforms.
Technical analysis shows the Switch 2 version runs at a capped 30 fps, with resolutions ranging from 540p‑1080p (docked) to 380p‑756p (handheld) and DLSS‑style upscaling to improve sharpness. Optimisations such as reduced shadow distances, lowered NPC density and trimmed geometry reduce frame‑rate drops, though texture quality and foliage detail are compromised compared with the Xbox Series version. The core gameplay, story and character models remain intact, delivering the same narrative experience across platforms.
