Jung-gu District launches night markets near Sindang Station
Jung-gu District in Seoul is launching the ‘Jung-gu-style Win-Win Night Market’ initiative, starting with three locations near Sindang Station on the 18th. The initial sites include Sinjungang Market, Baekhak Market, and the Sindang-ogil Alley Shopping Street.
Under this model, local merchants will manage the outdoor stalls according to the unique characteristics of their respective markets. Merchant associations will be responsible for maintaining safety, hygiene, and cleanliness to minimize resident inconvenience. A portion of the profits will be allocated to a ‘Win-Win Fund’ to improve market environments, expand safety facilities, and support community welfare.
Sinjungang Market will host the largest operation, with 34 shops offering food from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM daily. Baekhak Market and the Sindang-ogil Alley Shopping Street will also participate, particularly on Friday nights. The district plans to expand this program to other areas, including Namdaemun Market, Chungmuro, Yaksu, and Jangchungnamso-yeongil, to revitalize traditional markets and local commercial districts in alignment with Seoul’s night economy policies.
