Jung-gu District targets counterfeit sales and sidewalk obstructions in Dongdaemun

The Jung-gu District Office in Seoul has launched a special crackdown on 153 street vendor sites within the Dongdaemun Tourist Special Zone to address the sale of counterfeit goods and pedestrian obstructions.

Recent joint inspections conducted by a specialized task force—including the Seoul Metropolitan Police and the Korea Intellectual Property Protection Agency—resulted in the seizure of 533 counterfeit items, including clothing, bags, and shoes, valued at approximately 650 million won. One individual was booked for violating trademark laws.

Authorities are also targeting vendors who block sidewalks, tactile paving, and crosswalks with merchandise or unauthorized tents. While the district is currently focusing on guidance and voluntary compliance through campaigns, intensive enforcement and crackdowns on repeated violations are scheduled to begin in November.
