Jung-gu District to develop specialized gardens near DDP

Jung-gu District in Seoul is set to transform the area surrounding the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) into a specialized garden space by October. The project covers 1,480 square meters of roadside areas, aiming to create a more pleasant environment for residents and tourists.

The initiative focuses on connecting disconnected green pedestrian axes to realize a ‘5-minute garden city’ concept. Key features include ‘Attractive Gardens’ to enhance scenery with diverse plants and ‘Module Gardens’—customized rest areas combining planters and benches along sidewalks.

Specific improvements include revitalizing the Majang-ro intersection with fine dust-reducing vegetation and replacing dead trees near Good Morning City, Doota Mall, and Maxstyle with lilac, hydrangea, and spiraea. To improve safety and aesthetics at night, solar-powered lighting will be installed in the garden sections near Doota Mall and Maxstyle.
