Jung-hoo Lee trade speculation surfaces for San Francisco Giants
Speculation has emerged regarding the potential trade of Jung-hoo Lee by the San Francisco Giants as the team considers ways to manage its salary cap or bolster other positions. While MLB.com noted that Lee could be a trade candidate if the organization seeks to reduce payroll, several factors make a transaction difficult.
Lee, who signed a six-year, $113 million contract, is set to earn $22 million next season and holds opt-out rights after the 2027 season. Acquiring a player with such high salary obligations and opt-out potential would require a significant investment in prospects from any interested team.
Beyond financial considerations, Lee holds substantial marketing value. He currently leads the team in jersey sales and has been instrumental in expanding the Giants' fan base within the South Korean market.
On the field, Lee finished the season with a .276 batting average, 10 home runs, and 57 RBIs across 143 games. While his performance showed flashes of brilliance, his consistency fluctuated, particularly following the All-Star break. Giants manager Bob Melvin expressed confidence in Lee's development, noting improvements in his physical strength and adaptability after moving to right field.
