Junge Union demands urgent reforms at Deutschlandtag in Bonn

The Junge Union (JU) is convening for its Deutschlandtag conference in Bonn amidst internal political pressure. Pascal Reddig, head of the JU's parliamentary group, has called for urgent structural reforms and increased investment in the future to address a crisis of trust within the CDU. Reddig specifically emphasized the need for decisive action on pension reform, arguing that current models lack long-term viability.

In addition to policy demands, the JU is facing financial scrutiny. The organization had to repay approximately 348,509 euros in state funding from the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs due to insufficient documentation of how funds were used in 2025. To cover this repayment, the JU secured an interest-bearing loan from its parent party, the CDU.

Other political tensions include warnings from CDU social policymakers against cutting basic security benefits, and criticism from the JU Niedersachsen regarding the potential economic burden of debt on younger generations. Chancellor Friedrich Merz is expected to speak at the conference, following a period of declining poll numbers and recent electoral setbacks for the Union.
