Junior Matildas exit FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after loss to Mexico
The Australian Junior Matildas have concluded their first-ever appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup following a 1-0 defeat against Mexico in their final group stage match.
Mexico secured the victory in the 35th minute through a goal by Citlalli Reyes. Despite late substitutions and pressure from Australian players including Kaya Jugovic and Claire Corbett, the team was unable to find an equalizer.
Following the tournament exit, six Junior Matildas players are expected to return to their club, Sydney FC, this week. Sydney FC Head Coach James Slaveski noted that the return of these international players will bolster a squad that has recently been depleted by injuries and international duties.
