Football updates: Gallardo linked to Ecuador and Supercopa venue change

Various developments are occurring in the football world. Marcelo Gallardo is reportedly close to becoming the manager of the Ecuador national team following a meeting with FEF president Francisco Egas. This comes as Ecuador seeks to revitalize its project after recent international performances.

In Spain, the RFEF has announced that the 2027 Supercopa de España will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium. The venue change from Saudi Arabia is a temporary measure due to scheduling conflicts with the Asian Cup, though the tournament is expected to return to Saudi Arabia in 2028.

Regarding player movements, Colombian midfielder James Rodríguez is currently without a club but has been seen training intensely in Madrid while awaiting professional offers. Meanwhile, Atlético Bucaramanga has officially signed 21-year-old midfielder Nilzo Ronaldo Ramírez to bolster its squad for the second half of 2026.

In South American club competition, Jhon Arias started for Palmeiras in a 1-1 draw against Cerro Porteño during the first leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16. Arias missed key scoring opportunities, leaving the series to be decided in the return leg in Paraguay.
