Juniper Green Energy IPO opens with Rs 1,800 cr issue amid high debt and premium valuation

The Rs 1,800‑crore initial public offering of Juniper Green Energy Ltd opened for subscription on July 30, 2026. The book‑built issue is priced in a band of Rs 214‑225 per share and will list on both the BSE and NSE on August 6.

Anchor investors have already contributed Rs 539.4 crore, notably the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and Nippon India Mutual Fund, alongside several domestic mutual funds and insurers. Of the total proceeds, Rs 683.24 crore is earmarked for debt repayment or pre‑payment, Rs 728.69 crore for subsidiaries Juniper Green Gamma One, Kite and Power Five, with the balance slated for general corporate purposes.

Analysts flag significant risks: borrowings stood at Rs 12,920.54 crore in FY 2025‑26, over 95 % of which carry variable interest rates, exposing the firm to higher financing costs. The IPO’s valuation at the upper price band implies a price‑to‑earnings multiple of about 316.4, far above peers. Revenue is heavily dependent on two government‑backed utilities—Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd (MSEDCL) and Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL)—which together contributed 86.1 % of FY 26 earnings. A grey‑market premium of Rs 17 per share suggests a potential listing price of roughly Rs 242.

The offering has attracted attention from qualified institutional buyers, non‑institutional investors and retail participants, with a lot size of 66 shares for retail applicants.
