Junín proposed as new capital of Buenos Aires province
A new book titled ‘Junín, capital de los bonaerenses’ was presented at the Universidad Nacional del Noroeste de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (UNNOBA) in Junín. Written by essayist Luis Gotte and former national deputy Miguel Saredi, the work proposes a major administrative and political decentralization of the Buenos Aires province.
The authors argue that there is an excessive concentration of political, economic, and administrative power in La Plata and the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. To counter this, they propose moving the provincial executive branch from La Plata to Junín, citing the city's strategic location in the heart of the Pampa Húmeda and its connectivity via National Routes 7 and 188.
The proposal outlines a ‘Trident of Regional Development’ rather than focusing on a single city. In this model, Junín would serve as the political, administrative, and logistical center; Tandil would function as a scientific, technological, and knowledge hub; and Bahía Blanca would act as an energy, industrial, and port node.
