JUNO Awards introduce dedicated Reggae/Dancehall category

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) has announced updates to the JUNO Awards to better reflect the diversity of the Canadian music community. A key change includes the evolution of the reggae category, which has been renamed ‘Reggae/Dancehall Recording of the Year.’

This decision acknowledges the distinct artistic and sonic identities of Dancehall, which differs from Reggae through its digital production and high-energy tempos. Industry professionals and artists, including Phenique and curator Tony Anthony, have described the move as a significant and long-overdue recognition of the cultural impact and specific contributions of Dancehall artists within the Canadian music diaspora.
