Junta Central Electoral reaches 3 million identity card renewals in Dominican Republic

The Junta Central Electoral (JCE) has reached a milestone in the renewal of the Dominican Republic's identity and electoral card, recognizing the third million citizen to receive the new document. Onaney Rosmel Severino Alcántara was honored as the recipient of the three-millionth card.

As of the announcement, approximately 3,066,520 people have renewed their cards, representing 35.8% of the 8,569,272 people on the electoral roll. Including cards currently available for pickup, the total number of renewals stands at 3,231,490, or 37.7% of the electorate.

In a move to streamline the process, the JCE announced that the restriction preventing citizens from renewing their cards during their birth month has been eliminated, effective August 28.

The new identity cards feature advanced security technology, including nine layers of fused polycarbonate, laser-engraved personal data, a cryptographic chip, and a QR code. Currently, the cost for a replacement card due to loss is RD$1,200, as the JCE has yet to finalize specific regulations regarding the new replacement regime.
