Junta Central Electoral to pay US$964,000 to settle New York legal dispute

The Dominican Republic’s Junta Central Electoral (JCE) has agreed to pay US$964,000 to Latin Events, LLC, to resolve a legal dispute following a ruling by a federal court in the Southern District of New York.

The conflict stems from a 2023 contract valued at US$1 million for voter registration services in New York and surrounding states. While the JCE had previously paid US$230,000, Latin Events claimed the remaining balance plus interest. A New York court had previously ordered the JCE to pay US$838,337 plus interest.

Under the new settlement agreement, the JCE will make an initial payment of US$300,000 by October 1, 2026. The remaining US$664,000 will be paid in four monthly installments of US$166,000, scheduled between November 2026 and February 2027. The agreement aims to terminate all ongoing legal and execution proceedings in both the United States and the Dominican Republic.
