Junta de Extremadura payroll audit reveals overpayments

A review of public payrolls in Extremadura by the General Intervention has identified €11,575.54 in overpayments and €570.49 in underpayments. These findings were detailed in the General Report of Permanent Financial Control for the 2025 Plan, focusing on personnel expenditures from 2024.

The majority of the discrepancies occurred within the Extremadura Health Service (SES), which accounted for 90 cases totaling €10,831.01 in overpayments and €570.49 in underpayments. Additionally, 41 cases in the General Administration resulted in €744.53 in excess payments. Three cases involving non-university teaching staff were also noted, though no economic deviation was attributed to them.

In total, 134 incidents were recorded within the reviewed files. The administration clarified that these do not necessarily represent 134 different employees, as one individual may be involved in multiple cases. The administration also noted that some incidents relate to documentation or procedural issues rather than incorrect payments. The audit was conducted via sampling as part of internal control measures and does not imply that these errors extend to the entire public workforce.
