Junts evaluates pacts with PSOE regarding amnesty and EU language status

The political party Junts is evaluating the results of its pacts with the PSOE, specifically regarding the amnesty law and the official status of the Catalan language within the European Union.

The Spanish Constitutional Court is scheduled to begin reviewing appeals from the leaders of the 1-O movement this Tuesday. This legal process could potentially facilitate the return of Carles Puigdemont, Toni Comín, and Lluís Puig to Catalonia, as Supreme Court Judge Pablo Llarena has indicated that the amnesty would be applied following a ruling on embezzlement.

Simultaneously, the Spanish Government has pushed to return the issue of officializing Catalan, Basque, and Galician in EU institutions to the European Council's agenda for September 22. While the proposal faces challenges due to the requirement for unanimity among the 27 member states, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signaled a firmer stance, suggesting that Spain may withhold approval for new EU members until these linguistic issues are addressed.
