Junts officials plan phased return of Catalan leaders to Spain

Sources from the Junts party indicate a two-phase plan for the return of former Catalan officials to Spain. Former ministers Toni Comín and Lluís Puig are expected to return to Catalonia first, followed by former President Carles Puigdemont.

The return is being planned to ensure Puigdemont receives an ‘institutional return’ with full honors from the Parliament, recognizing him as a former president removed under Article 155 rather than through electoral results. The officials intend to wait for the Spanish Supreme Court to formally close their judicial case following the lifting of arrest warrants by Judge Pablo Llarena.

Comín and Puig aim to return to exercise public office, while Puigdemont seeks to act as a catalyst for the independence movement, emphasizing a commitment to the country rather than a specific political party.
