Junya Ishigami wins inaugural Barragán Prize
Japanese architect Junya Ishigami has been named the inaugural recipient of the Barragán Prize, a new international award designed to honor professionals who expand the boundaries of architecture.
The ceremony took place at La Cuadra in Mexico City, an emblematic property designed by Luis Barragán in the late 1960s. The prize is named in honor of Barragán, the only Mexican architect to have received the Pritzker Prize, and aims to recognize those who propose new ways of conceiving and inhabiting space.
To mark the occasion, Bottega Veneta and La Cuadra hosted a luncheon attended by various figures from the worlds of art, design, and architecture, including Louise Trotter, creative director of Bottega Veneta, and Fernando Romero. Other notable attendees included Marina Abramović, Pedro Reyes, Benedetta Tagliabue, Jürgen Mayer H., and Raymund Ryan, as well as the Japanese extraordinary ambassador to Mexico, Kozo Honsei.
