Juracy Palhano, former federal deputy, dies at 91

Juracy Palhano Freire, a former federal and state deputy, has died in Campina Grande at the age of 91. He had been hospitalized for approximately one month following a fall.

Palhano had a long political career in Paraíba, beginning in 1968 as a city councilor in Remígio. He served multiple terms in the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba, winning reelection in 1978. While he unsuccessfully ran for the mayoralty of Campina Grande in 1972 and 1976, he eventually served as a federal deputy after assuming the position following the death of Ernani Sátyro in 1986.

Beyond his legislative roles, Palhano was involved in education as a school director and was a founder of the Bairro das Nações neighborhood in Campina Grande. His wake was scheduled for Wednesday in the São José neighborhood, with burial to follow at the Monte Santo Cemetery.
