Slovakia prepares state budget approval and ministry leadership changes

The Slovak government is preparing to approve the 2027 state budget, which includes a projected deficit of 4.94% of GDP. The budget negotiations also involve the planned abolition of the transaction tax starting in 2028.

In addition to fiscal matters, the coalition council is addressing personnel changes within the Ministry of Environment. Following the dismissal of former head Tomáš Tarab, Prime Minister Robert Fico and SNS leader Andrej Danko are working to finalize a new leadership structure, with Filip Kuffa identified as the SNS candidate for the role.

On the diplomatic front, Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár participated in meetings in Montenegro as part of the S3 (Slavkovský formát) framework. Blanár emphasized that Montenegro should lead the way for Western Balkan integration into the EU, advocating for a process based strictly on established rules.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Robert Fico, currently recovering from a virus, is scheduled to travel to Belgrade to attend a meeting of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), following an invitation from former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič.
