Juraj Slafkovský avoids injury after puck strike during Canadiens training
Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovský left a Thursday training session early after being struck in the face by a puck. The incident occurred near the net while goaltender Jacob Fowler was on duty; the puck reportedly deflected off Cole Caufield’s stick and hit Slafkovský’s helmet visor.
Slafkovský stated following the session that he does not believe he sustained an injury, jokingly remarking, “I’ll probably just end up with a monocle.”
The incident comes at a challenging time for the team, as Montreal will play without captain Nick Suzuki, who is expected to miss two to four weeks due to an upper-body injury. Slafkovský commented on Suzuki’s importance to the roster, noting that the team must fight harder in his absence.
In their most recent game, the Canadiens defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1. Despite the win, the team's top line consisting of Slafkovský, Oliver Kapanen, and Caufield struggled to produce offensively, while Chicago’s Connor Bedard opened the scoring early in the match.
