Jurala Project water released following Karnataka assurance

The Telangana government has ordered the release of irrigation water from the Priyadarshini Jurala Project to protect standing crops in the Palamuru region. The decision follows intense protests by farmers in the Jogulamba Gadwal district who demanded water to save crops at a crucial growth stage.

A Telangana delegation, including Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, met with Karnataka Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar in Bengaluru to request additional water. Following the meeting, the Karnataka Chief Minister assured the delegation that approximately 7 TMC of water would be released to the Jurala Project at a rate of 5,000 cusecs per day for 30 days.

In response to these assurances and fresh upstream inflows, officials began releasing water into the project’s canals on Wednesday. While the release aims to support approximately 5.5 lakh acres of cultivated land, officials have urged farmers to use the water carefully to avoid wastage and ensure drinking water requirements are met.
