Juárez K-9 unit uses Italian commands for drug and weapon detection

The Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) in Ciudad Juárez has highlighted the specialized work of its K-9 unit. The division currently consists of 15 dogs, 14 of which are trained to detect narcotics and firearms, while one is specialized in explosive detection.

To prevent interference from unauthorized individuals during operations, the dogs are trained to respond to commands exclusively in Italian. This specialized training is part of a rigorous process that begins when the animals are puppies, focusing on temperament, strength, and intelligence. The K-9 teams work in 12-hour shifts alongside human agents, participating in municipal operations and joint actions with the National Guard and the Secretariat of National Defense.
