Juárez Mayor accuses state officials of fear over PAN boycott claims
Juárez Mayor Héctor Ortiz Orpinel has accused state government officials of acting out of fear following allegations of a potential boycott by the Morena party. The controversy stems from comments made by Santiago de la Peña, the State Government's Secretary General, who suggested that Morena might disrupt a public event scheduled for Saturday.
The event is intended to introduce Marco Bonilla as the National Action Party (PAN) candidate for the 2027 governorship. Ortiz Orpinel dismissed the warnings as a narrative designed to justify potential issues if turnout is high, asserting that the local government in Juárez respects citizen demonstrations.
Orpinel further claimed that state officials have previously orchestrated boycotts against peaceful marches, specifically citing an incident in Chihuahua City involving Morena in June.
