Jurgen Streppel appointed as Willem II head coach

Willem II has appointed Jurgen Streppel as its new head coach through the end of the season. The 57-year-old returns to the Tilburg-based club, where he previously served between 2011 and 2016, a period that included a league championship and promotion to the Eredivisie.

Streppel succeeds John Stegeman, who was dismissed following a difficult run of results. The club currently sits at the bottom of the Eredivisie with only two points from ten matches. Streppel’s immediate challenge will be an away match against league leaders PSV this coming Saturday.

Before returning to the Netherlands, Streppel had a brief tenure at the Cypriot club Akritas Chlorakas. Technical director Freek Heerkens expressed support for the appointment, noting the courage required to take on the role during such a challenging period for the team.
