Jussi Ahokas joins Colorado Avalanche organization

Finnish coach Jussi Ahokas has reached the NHL organization, beginning his first season with the Colorado Avalanche training camp and subsequently serving as the head coach for the AHL team, the Colorado Eagles.

This milestone marks a significant development for Finnish coaching in North America. Since Alpo Suhonen became the first European-trained head coach in the NHL with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2000, interest in Finnish coaching prospects has remained high. While prominent figures like Jukka Jalonen and former players like Olli Jokinen or Tuomo Ruutu have been discussed in relation to NHL opportunities, Ahokas has carved out a distinct path to the league through determination and strategic career moves rather than relying solely on a former playing career or assistant coaching roles.
