Just Eat Takeaway launches AI voice assistant for food ordering in Italy

Just Eat Takeaway has introduced a conversational AI voice assistant for its iOS and Android apps in Italy. The tool lets users order meals, groceries, beauty and para‑pharmacy products by speaking naturally to the app, eliminating the need to scroll through menus.

The company says Italian users typically spend 7.8 minutes, browse 2.63 restaurants and consider more than four dishes before deciding, with 86% hesitating between two cuisines. In tests in the United Kingdom, the voice interface cut ordering time by about 40% and raised the likelihood of choosing the recommended restaurant by 30%. The assistant understands fragmented or informal speech, supports dozens of languages, and complies with GDPR by not storing conversation logs. Daniele Contini, Country Manager for Just Eat Italy, noted that the real challenge in food delivery is helping customers decide what to order.
