Just Eat Takeaway.com launches AI voice assistant in Italy

Just Eat Takeaway.com has introduced an artificial‑intelligence‑driven voice assistant on its iOS and Android apps for the Italian market. The feature expands the existing text‑chat tool, allowing users to speak natural‑language queries to discover restaurants, dishes, as well as pharmacy and beauty products.

The company says the assistant is designed to ease the "choice overload" consumers face, delivering personalized, real‑time recommendations. It relies on generative AI models that can interpret informal or vague requests and supports dozens of languages. Early results from a United Kingdom trial showed voice users locate what they want about 40% faster than with text chat and are roughly 30% more likely to select a suggested restaurant or dish.

Just Eat Takeaway.com notes that the average order in Italy currently takes 7.8 minutes, with users viewing around 2.6 restaurants and more than four dishes, and that 86% of shoppers are undecided between cuisine types. The firm states the service complies with GDPR, does not store conversations, and includes safety protocols, while also offering a keyboard‑voice toggle to aid users with visual or mobility impairments. Future enhancements are planned.
