Just Folk targeted for Heatherlie Stakes in spring build-up

Trainer Gavin Bedggood is preparing the 10-year-old galloper Just Folk for a spring campaign, with the Listed Heatherlie Stakes at Caulfield on August 29 identified as a primary target. The race serves as the official opening of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

As a lead-up to the Heatherlie Stakes, Just Folk has been nominated for two potential races this Saturday at Caulfield: the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) and a benchmark 100 handicap (1600m).

Weather conditions are expected to favor the horse, as Just Folk has a strong track record on rain-affected surfaces. Of his career wins, five have occurred on soft tracks, and three have been on heavy ground. Bedggood noted that the horse’s fitness from the winter season could provide a competitive edge in the upcoming spring features.
