Justice Department charges 50 noncitizens with election fraud under Trump

The U.S. Department of Justice has charged approximately 50 noncitizens with election fraud offenses, including illegal voting and registration, since the start of Donald Trump’s second term. This figure represents nearly four times the total number of noncitizen election fraud charges brought by the Biden administration during its entire four-year tenure, in which 13 noncitizens were charged.

According to Justice Department figures, 17 noncitizens have been convicted of voting-related offenses during the current administration, with one defendant found not guilty and other cases remaining pending. Under the previous administration led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, nine defendants were found guilty of such offenses.

Supporters of the current administration’s approach point to these prosecutions as justification for the SAVE America Act, a proposed piece of legislation that would require photo identification and proof of citizenship for voter registration.
