Justice Department investigates potential conspiracy regarding Mar-a-Lago search
Justice Department investigators are conducting a Florida-based inquiry to establish whether a conspiracy was carried out against Donald Trump. As part of this effort, investigators have recently sought voluntary interviews with law enforcement officials.
The investigation appears to be expanding its scope. While previously focused on Russian interference in the 2016 election, it is now examining the 2022 FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, during which top secret documents were seized.
Joe diGenova, who returned to the Justice Department in April to oversee the investigation, has declined to comment. This inquiry follows the dismissal of a previous case against Trump regarding the unlawful retention of classified documents, after Judge Aileen Cannon ruled that prosecutor Jack Smith had been illegally appointed.
