Justice Sandeep Mehta urges replacement of Rajasthan HC Acting Chief Justice
Supreme Court Justice Sandeep Mehta has issued three letters to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, calling for the immediate replacement of Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma.
In communications dated August 2, 10, and 17, 2026, Justice Mehta alleged that Justice Sharma’s conduct “raises doubts on his integrity” and characterized his leadership as lacking. The allegations include claims of nepotism, favoritism toward specific advocates, and the manipulation of case listings and administrative rosters.
Justice Mehta further reported that several High Court judges expressed distress over Justice Sharma’s behavior, alleging he threatened colleagues with retaliatory actions, such as transfers. Justice Mehta has repeatedly requested that the Collegium appoint a regular Chief Justice from another state to lead the Rajasthan High Court to prevent further institutional damage. These allegations remain untested, and no formal response from Justice Sharma has been recorded.
