Justice Without Borders expedition secures benefits for disabled man in Brazil

The second edition of the Justice Without Borders expedition visited Santa Clara de Monte Cristo, a border community in Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade, Mato Grosso, Brazil. Integrated efforts by the state judiciary, federal justice, the Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social and other partners resolved a year‑long bureaucratic case for 36‑year‑old Sebastian Costaleite Vaca, who has physical and intellectual disabilities and uses a wheelchair.

During the four‑hour intervention, the expedition obtained a curatorship for Sebastian’s sister Lilia Beatriz Costaleite Vaca and confirmed his eligibility for the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC). Officials said the coordinated action illustrates how public institutions can swiftly deliver citizenship, inclusion and access to justice in remote border areas.
