Following his upset victory over Ilia Topuria to become the undisputed UFC lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje has expressed interest in defending his title against Conor McGregor. Gaethje noted that while he previously held losses to Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, Topuria’s recent victories over those fighters allow him to view the division differently.

Gaethje stated that fighting McGregor would be “fun to shut him up.” McGregor recently returned to the Octagon in July after a five-year absence but suffered a leg injury during his bout against Holloway.

Gaethje indicated that his next opponent will likely be determined by upcoming fights involving contenders such as Arman Tsarukyan. Due to a hand injury, Gaethje is not expected to compete again until 2027.
